Hi,
I've just been told that I have to go to Milano 24/1 so I was thinking
of maybe joining the last few days of the sprint on my way there...
Would that be a good idea or is it too late? How far is it from the
nearest airport? Are there buses/trains that will easily take me there
from the airport?

Hi Hakan,
probably Armin can give you better directions, but IIRC the closest airport to
Leysin is Geneva: from there, you have to take a train to Aigle (~2hr) and
then the small train to Leysin (~30min).

Going from Leysin to Milano is also not too bad by train: you have to go to
Aigle, then to Brig, then there is a direct train to Milano (between 3.5 and 4
hours in total, IIRC).

It's actually somewhat faster than that, Geneva to Aigle is 1.5 hours, 
so the total trip to Leysin is two hours.

so my plan right now is to arrive in Leysin 20/1 at about 13:00 -
14:00 and leave again 23/1 in the evening catching a train 19.16 from
Aigle. Would you still be able to adjust the reservations at Ermina to
squeeze me in during those days or shall I try to do a separate
booking myself?

Great!  I need to check, but in all probability booking an extra at
Ermina will not be a problem.  Do you need a single-person room, or is
it ok if we squeeze you in some 3-persons room?  So far I have 3 rooms
booked, for 2 persons each, but we can try to change one into a
3-persons room.

Just a quick note for your arrival: here is a map of Leysin with the
target Chalet at the green arrow
(http://maps.google.ch/maps?q=46.3492,7.0207).  "Upwards" is towards
the NW (upper-left corner).  The down-sloping street to take from the
train stop "Leysin-Feydey" is "Le Commerce".

If you arrive at the Chalet Ermina and there is nobody, feel free to
enter and go down in the salon area to put your baggage.  I will be
there myself from around 5-6pm Saturday.

just a note: on google maps, there is an icon labeled "Hotel Ermina Bed and
Breakfast" (at the cross between "Les Ormonts" and "R. Luis Favez"), but from
what I can remember from leysin it's wrong (i.e., the green arrow indicated by
armin is the real place where the chalet is).

You are right. When checking I also noticed that the sattelite photo is very 
old. The newer of the chalet buildings is not on the photo, which means that 
the photo predates the first Leysin sprint.

There is also some confusion about where the train stops are.  The
stop to which you should go is "Leysin-Feydey" and is correctly
placed.  Don't confuse it with the other stops "Versmont" and
"Leysin-Village", nor with "Leysin-Grand-H?tel" which is incorrectly
placed right next to "Leysin-Feydey".
