The prices are per room - it's 125 for two in the room (so 62.5 each) and 170 for three in the room (so, er, 170/3 each). To answer the question "how do I get from XXX to YYY in Germany" (or even other parts of europe, my experiences have been quite good with that) try the website of the Deutsche Bahn: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en It will tell you how and how quickly and for how much from XXX to YYY very quickly. Works even surprisingly well if XXX and YYY are in the uk :-). Since my reasons for participation aren't the usual, I thought I would write a short note to introduce myself and tell you about my intentions: I'm a researcher at the University of Limerick, Ireland, currently working in a project called Social, Organisational and Cultural Aspects of Global Software Development (socGSD for short). We're looking at the human aspects of globally distributed software development from an interdisciplinary perspective. Last summer there was a PyPy sprint here at UL, which most of you probably know. Since it was in our backyard and we are interested in the way open source communities' work, we took the opportunity to do a short observational study. This resulted in a paper entitled "Sprint-Driven Development: Working, Learning and the Process of Enculturation in the PyPy Community". It's currently under review for the OSS 2007 conference (http://oss2007.dti.unimi.it/). If anyone is interested in reading it, just let me know. The whole thing went very well and now we are interested in doing a follow-up study. This is why I plan to attend the Trillke sprint. I've talked to Bea about it and we agreed that this is a good opportunity. This won't mean I'll be doing any interviewing or filming or such. There might be some audio recording of status meetings, but I'll let you know beforehand and it's up to you to decide. It'll be a purely observational study, so I'll just be trying to participate and help out where I can, while trying to be...er, as "observant" as possible. Which brings me to another point: since I am at the sprint I'd also like to be as helpful as possible regarding what it's all actually about, i.e. coding. I have been doing some basic Python lately (actually, I got inspired last summer for some reason...) and I also have some prior programming experience from both work, education and leisure. Mostly I've done Java, SQL and serve-side scripting like PHP and ASP, but I have at least tried C/C++ and Perl as well. Have a degree in Systems Analysis with a focus on methodologies and construction of information systems, so I have basic knowledge about software development, architectures, testing, and etcetera. Since I've only done the basic tutorials for Python yet and haven't had any experience with PyPy specifically at all (more than that I know what the project is about in general), I guess I won't be able to contribute a whole lot during the short sprint, but I'd like to think that I can at least follow what's going on (although that remains to be seen), so any task you guys deem appropriate for a beginner I'll be happy to have a go at. I guess I can be considered a semi-participant of sorts. That's it. I hope everyone is ok with this. If there are any doubts, don't hesitate to let me know. Regarding accommodation, I thought I'd book a room at the G?stehaus Klocke. Does anyone know what the best way to do so is? E-mail, phone, on location? The hotel is not really far, but walking would take approximately 30 min (http://www.de.map24.com/) Hildesheim public transport unfortunately is a hassle, but for those who consider it, from main station: * during daytime: take bus no. 3 to 'hildesheimer wald' and get out at 'dammtor'. change to bus no. 5 'ochtersum sued' or 'diekholzen' and get off at 'vier linden'. from there it's still 10 min walk. the bus-fare is 1.80 eur * sunday (!) & evening: talk a walk into the center (follow the pedestrian area, cross a big street, finally bump into busstop; about 15 minutes), take the bus 102 to 'ochtersum sued' and get out at 'vier linden'. or walk the other half way to the hotel as well...;) -> from busstop cross street, turn left into small street to sportareas, crossing a small bridge, turn left afterwards and 1st right is humboldtstrasse/klocke. (timetable: http://www.efa.de/ , from: hildesheim & hauptbahnhof to: hildesheim & vier linden) cheers and see you soon, alix From alix at merlinux.de Tue Feb 20 16:35:44 2007 From: alix at merlinux.de (Alix Einfeldt) Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2007 16:35:44 +0100 Subject: [pypy-sprint] klocke reservations for trillke-sprint Message-ID: <45DB1550.8040206@merlinux.de> Dear Sprinters, referring to your answers and the informations klocke gave me ('all these english people' :), I confirmed following reservations to klocke (unless you had already). So now to the fine print :) The people sleeping privately are asked to pay 10 euro per night and room - this money goes to the flat-shares they are accomodated with. There will be breakfast + lunch things + coffee/tea each day + sometimes dinner (unless we go out), and we estimate some 8-15 euros per day and would like to handle it rather flatly, if you are ok with that. On Thursday morning i plan to go to a local Sauna and welcome anyone who wants to join. Friday evening there will be some movie (we're always interested in suggestions) in a kind-of-house-pub and probably there are some other opportunities, we'll see. so far, any more questions/suggestions? many thanks to Alix for organising most things, and best, holger -- merlinux GmbH Steinbergstr. 42 31139 Hildesheim http://merlinux.de tel +49 5121 20800 75 (fax 77) From g.brandl at gmx.net Fri Feb 23 07:00:11 2007 From: g.brandl at gmx.net (Georg Brandl) Date: Fri, 23 Feb 2007 07:00:11 +0100 Subject: [pypy-sprint] Late newcomer...
