[pypy-sprint] Sprint preparation

Hi,

Here is a note for sprinters: don't worry too much about the recent e-mail
discussions between Samuele and me :-) This was essentially about
optimization, and the temporary conclusion was that we should focus on
different goals right now.

The number one issue I think we'll have to work on during the sprint is
getting the whole of PyPy through the translator in the first place, without
even caring about annotations, and there are a range of various problems along
the way. This will be the fun and time-consuming part, I guess :-)

I don't think that generating unoptimized C code at the end is very difficult
now. A quick look genc.py -- I'll explain how it works at the beginning of
the sprint -- it's easy. More importantly I'll recall the rest of the
translation process, and focus on the bits we need to enhance for PyPy.

Depending on how far we go and how interested people are (Christian, Holger?),
I could give later during the week a feeling for the optimizations Samuele and
me are talking about, but we shouldn't work on that right now.

A bientôt,

Armin.
