That's interesting, and probably true.  The majority of my foreign
experiences occurred between 20 and 15 years ago, before ATM networks
were international in reach.  In those years, I _always_ used to prefer
credit cards, because changing currency or traveler's checks at a
bank (or especially a hotel) was a good way to give away 5-10% of
your money.  But now that you've jogged my memory, my more recent
forays abroad have included pleasant experiences of being able
to pull money right out of the wall, just like I do back home,
without too bad of an exchange rate.
