This is what I use to build lxml in CentOS4, which has the
"too-old-libxml2-and-libxslt" problem:

 $ wget http://pypi.python.org/packages/source/l/lxml/lxml-2.2.2.tar.gz
 ...
 $ tar xzf lxml-2.2.2.tar.gz
 $ cd lxml-2.2.2
 $ /path/to/python setup.py bdist_egg --static-deps
