You already get a confusing number of little clickable things appearing 
round cells if you edit in Firefox. I can't see this is likely to be that 
common an operation: a more useful enhancement to my POV would be getting 
copy/paste working such that I could copy the table contents into a 
spreadsheet (or docs.google.com), edit it there, and then copy it back 
again.

... and how come Googles right click copy/paste menu seems to work when 
ours doesn't?
