I'd encourage you guys to look at ExtJS as well. I really think this is 
a library with solid components we could use in Plone. See my blog post

The problem, again, is page weight. We need to make sure that we don't 
slow down page rendering further. It's truly awful how bad browsers are 
at executing JS (Firefox basically freezes completely until it's done), 
but that's what we have to work with.
