I suggest you don't spend time on fixing the azax/PloneAzax branches. 
Those branches are retired and will eventually be removed. They actually 
have been obsolate a year ago already, and no development was done on 
them since the azax -> kss namespace change.

We still currently run kss on a 2.5 branch in production, but it is 
heavily customized and we will migrate it asap.

If you really need kss on Plone 2.5 / Zope 2.9, it would be possible to 
backport kss.core 1.2 to Zope 2.9. We planned that originally, but there 
seems to be less and less interest in it, since Plone 3.0 is quite stable 
for production use.

May I ask why you are using the obsolete branch? To fix the branch you 
are using is hopeless and I strongly discourage you from doing so. To do 
the backport of 1.2 to Plone 2.5 would lead to a managable solution (just 
kss and no Plone support) but would be a lot of work for nothing. Why not 
simply upgrade your portal to 3.0? You would save an infinitely lot of 
time this way.
